We've Moved

Okay, this blog is on the way out. Join us as we settle in at www.comicscareer.com

We've already imported this content to the new site. Plus, we've added some initial content, including the Comics Industry Yellow Pages and interviews with Mike Gold and Tom DeFalco.

You're sure to see much more to come in the next few days as we continue to experiment with new tools and content.

One small step

The hosting for our new site is up and running. For now though, it simply redirects  your browser right back to this blog. Also, we've completed our initial legal and accounting meetings. Monday we will give the lawyer  the go-ahead to create our new legal entity!

Ping Ping Ping Ping

Expect Comics Career to come out of silent running mode here on the blog gradually over the next several weeks. I've been on vacation from my day job for the past week, and Kelly and I have used the time to make giants steps toward the launch of the new Comics Career site. The work so far is the behind-the-scenes, necessary-but-boring part of launching a new company: meetings with lawyers and accountants, preparing to incorporate, lining up office space, etc.
Once the behind-the-scenes part is done we will ramp up the launch of the full website. ComicsCareer.Com will feature an ever-growing amount of content for established and aspiring comics creators. The details aren't 100% set, but here's some of what you can expect:
  • Articles and interviews about the craft of creating comics and the business of managing a career as a comics creator.
  • Reviews and recommendations of the books and other media that make up the Essential Library for comics creators.
  • A forum where creators can meet, socialize, and comment of industry events and trends.
It's going to be a lot of work, but Kelly and I are moving full speed ahead. Watch this space for more news.

Learning about Fractions

Matt Fraction is the focus on an extensive page one article about area comic book creators in today's Kansas City Star. Brian McTavish is one of the most comics-friendly writers in mainstream journalism, and lately the Star has been unbelievably supportive of comics in every form. I raved about their support of Planet Comicon just a month or so ago.
The article covers starts with Fraction's new Iron Man series and uses it as a jumping off point to talk about the explosion of Kansas City talent that is currently taking the industry by storm. It includes quotes from Tony Moore, Nathan Fox, B. Clay Moore, Jason Aaron, and Jai Nitz
Well, enough of me telling you about it. Go read it for yourself!

Here we come again

It's time to gear back up on the blog as Kelly and I are getting closer to the launch of the upcoming Comics Career website. We've been working out the details of an extensive business plan, lining up legal and financial services, creating new office space in our basement, developing the technical specifications of the site, and creating an initial editorial calendar. We still have many hurdles to cross before we go live, but it's getting closer every day. Watch this space for further announcements.

On the mend

My favorite Planet Comicon 2008 passenger, Star Wars' Kenny Baker, is recovering from his near-death health scare. This story from the Lancashire Evening Post has quotes from him plus a link to a short video clip from the interview.

I hate that he had such a dire medical crisis as a result of his U.S. trip. And those of us who got to interact with him were involved in what's likely to be his last Western Hemisphere appearance. The paper quotes him as saying that we will probably not travel outside of Europe any more.
